Executive search in Thailand, built on 24+ years
Two structures shape most senior appointments in Thailand, and a search that ignores either will stall. A large share of the corporate landscape is family-controlled groups, where a professional C-suite hire reports to shareholders who are also relatives, and the first question a serious candidate asks is how much authority the role genuinely carries. The other is the foreign-parent manufacturer, common through the Eastern Seaboard, where a Thai functional head reports to an expatriate management team and the appointment turns as much on working across that line as on the function itself. Our Bangkok practice runs through People Profilers Bangkok Recruitment Co., Ltd. under Thailand Recruitment Licence น.1830/2565, with researchers who have followed these careers across more than one cycle.
Two engagement models for executive search
Every mandate starts with a scoping conversation, and the model usually follows how visible the search can afford to be. Bangkok industry circles at this level are small, so if the incumbent is still in the chair, or the role sits inside a family group where word reaches shareholders quickly, retained is the safer structure. Where several credible candidates exist and speed matters more than discretion, a success fee works.
Retained Search Model
- ✓Fee paid in three staged instalments (typically 30% at engagement, 30% at shortlist, 40% on commencement)
- ✓Exclusive mandate with dedicated researcher capacity
- ✓Confidential market mapping; passive candidates approached by name
- ✓Best fit for confidential replacements, C-suite, Country Head, and Board appointments
- ✓Three-month replacement guarantee from the candidate’s start date. Staged fees are non-refundable once each milestone is met
Success Fee Model
- ✓Fee payable only on candidate commencement, calculated as a percentage of Total Annual Remuneration
- ✓Lower upfront commitment, faster initial activity
- ✓Best fit for senior roles where multiple credible candidates are likely and speed matters more than confidentiality
- ✓Same partner-led process, shortlist standards, three-month replacement guarantee, and 6-month follow-up as retained
- ✓Minimum Fee applies regardless of placement TAR
Both models reference Total Annual Remuneration narrowly defined in our engagement letter (excludes equity, LTIPs not paid in first 12 months, and discretionary bonuses).
Executive headhunters in Bangkok and across Thailand
Both models reference Total Annual Remuneration as narrowly defined in our engagement letter. For a Thai package we agree up front what counts, since a guaranteed annual bonus is a normal part of senior remuneration here. Equity, LTIPs not paid in the first twelve months and discretionary bonuses are excluded.
What decides a Thai executive search
Three things separate a senior search that closes from one that circles, and the first is a question every credible candidate will ask you.
A straight answer on authority
In a family-controlled group or a foreign-parent subsidiary, the org chart rarely settles who actually decides. Senior candidates in Bangkok know this and will ask early what sits with the role, what sits with the shareholders or the parent company, and what happened to the last person in the chair. Having that answer ready is worth more than the salary band.
Language and reporting line scoped at brief
Where the parent company is Japanese, Chinese or Korean, the working language of the leadership team narrows the field sharply, and sometimes more than the technical requirement does. Deciding at week one whether the role truly needs that language or needs someone who has worked successfully under that structure changes who we can approach.
A work permit path, if the hire is foreign
A foreign Country Head or technical director cannot start on goodwill. The work permit is tied to the employing company and sits alongside a Thai-to-foreign headcount requirement that promoted status can relieve. We raise this during scoping, because discovering it after a candidate has accepted costs weeks and occasionally the candidate.

Industries & Functions We Cover
Search consultants here are split two ways. Some own an industry and can tell you who actually runs the function at each of the dozen companies that matter in it. Others own a role family, and know why a plant director in Rayong and one in Samut Prakan are not interchangeable. A mandate usually needs one of each.
Aerospace & Aviation
MRO technicians and licensed engineers, ground handling and cabin services leadership, and aviation supply chain roles around Suvarnabhumi, Don Mueang and U-Tapao.
Automotive
Production and quality engineers, supplier development, sales and aftersales management across the Eastern Seaboard assembly and parts cluster.
Banking & Financial Services
Relationship managers, credit and risk analysts, compliance and AML officers and operations specialists across Thai commercial banks, insurers and asset managers.
Biotechnology & Pharmaceutical
Regulatory affairs, QA and validation, medical affairs and market access roles for manufacturers, distributors and clinical research organisations.
Chemical
Process, production and reliability engineers, HSE officers and technical sales across the Map Ta Phut petrochemical complex.
Construction & Civil Engineering
Project and site managers, civil, structural and M&E engineers, quantity surveyors and safety officers on Bangkok and EEC infrastructure.
FMCG & Retail
Brand and trade marketing managers, key account and modern trade specialists, and retail operations across Bangkok and upcountry networks.
Healthcare
Clinical operations, nursing leadership, medical representatives and regulatory specialists for private hospital groups and device companies.
IT & Telecommunication
Software engineers, cloud and data specialists, product managers and network engineers across Bangkok technology employers and the telco operators.
Logistics & Transportation
Freight forwarding, customs and import-export specialists, warehouse and distribution managers around Laem Chabang, Suvarnabhumi and the EEC.

Frequently asked questions
Who is People Profilers Bangkok Recruitment Co., Ltd.?
People Profilers Bangkok Recruitment Co., Ltd. is the executive search arm of People Profilers, a Southeast Asia HR group founded in 2002 with Thailand operations established 2022. We hold Thailand Recruitment Licence น.1830/2565 and run executive search engagements for C-suite, Country Head, and senior leadership mandates across Thailand and the wider region.
What seniority levels do you cover?
From director upward. Country and managing directors, finance and HR directors, operations, technology and commercial leads, plant and site directors, and board seats.
Manager and senior manager roles belong with general recruitment on a tiered placement fee. Taking a search brief for a role that does not require search would be charging you for method you do not need.
Is executive search retained or contingent?
Both exist, and the choice is driven by discretion more than anything else.
Where the appointment is sensitive, meaning the incumbent does not know, or it is a country head or a board seat, retained is the only workable instrument. Fees stage at roughly thirty per cent on engagement, thirty at shortlist and forty on commencement, each becoming non-refundable as its milestone passes. Exclusivity and dedicated researcher hours are what that pays for, and without them confidential mapping cannot honestly be attempted.
Where the market plausibly holds several strong candidates and the pressure is time rather than secrecy, a success fee makes more sense. It falls due only when someone starts, calculated on total annual remuneration against a stated minimum.
What does not vary between them: who runs the mandate, the standard a shortlist has to meet, the three-month replacement guarantee, and the six-month follow-up. We recommend a model after the scoping conversation, not before it.
How long does an executive search take?
Eight to fourteen weeks from kickoff to a signed offer. In Thailand the two things that move that date are the annual bonus, which most senior candidates will not walk away from, and stakeholder availability where the decision involves a parent company or family shareholders. We will tell you at briefing which of those applies to your search.
If the successful candidate is a foreign national, the work permit has to be in place before they can start, so plan for that on top of the notice period rather than inside it.
Do you handle confidential replacement searches?
Frequently, and it is among the more delicate work we do. The incumbent is still in post, still managing a team, and in many cases still unaware.
Practically that means researchers briefed on precisely what may and may not be said, approaches made under non-disclosure, and your name withheld from the market until you release it. Candidate materials and longlists circulate only to the people named at kickoff. Nothing about the mandate appears in writing anywhere it could be forwarded.
What is the difference between a headhunter and an executive search firm?
They are the same thing under two labels. One is what people say, the other is what appears on a contract, and both mean finding senior people who are not looking, reaching them privately, and giving the right one a reason to listen. Our consultants do that from Bangkok, and across five Southeast Asian markets when a mandate crosses borders.
Our Bangkok-based headhunters run retained and success-fee mandates for Director through C-suite roles under Thailand Recruitment Licence น.1830/2565, following the process described on this page.
Do your headhunters cover roles outside Bangkok?
Yes. Beyond Bangkok the senior demand sits along the Eastern Seaboard through Chonburi and Rayong for automotive, electronics and petrochemical leadership, in the northern electronics cluster around Lamphun and Chiang Mai, and in the southern tourism and agribusiness economy. Those pools are smaller than Bangkok's, so discretion matters more, not less.
For regional appointments, we also run cross-border leadership searches through People Profilers’ licensed offices in Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam and Indonesia.
Do you offer a replacement guarantee?
Three months from the start date, on every placement, retained or success fee alike. If it does not hold, we search again and charge no further placement fee. The terms are in your engagement letter.
